Hands-on guidance that brings out your individuality
Ikebana is, we believe, an extension of the person who arranges it — almost like a second self. Even when working with the same flowers, each arrangement takes on a completely different expression depending on who creates it. That is why, in our classes, we honor each person’s sensibility and hold individuality dear. Rather than binding you to set forms, we offer careful guidance so you can enjoy free and genuine expression. You are welcome to choose between group lessons and individual lessons, whichever suits you best.

One of the joys of this studio is learning alongside others. Seeing how the same theme can bloom into entirely different expressions — each one reflecting a unique personality — opens your eyes to new possibilities.

At Ambient Ikebana, you can choose between two formats: group lessons of around ten participants, or individual lessons.

What makes Group Lessons special
- When international participants are present, lessons are conducted in both Japanese and English — a wonderful opportunity for those looking to practice a language or make new connections.
- In a group setting, you can see that your work will be different from another person’s ikebana even if you have the same theme with another student.The atmosphere is welcoming to everyone, including men.
- There are no right answers here — you express yourself freely through your own sensibility. The sense of satisfaction when a piece comes together is something special.
- Time spent with flowers becomes a space entirely your own, where work and the everyday fade away and you can simply focus.
- You can progress step by step through the Sogetsu textbooks, with the chance to enter your work in the annual ikebana exhibition.

- In a one-on-one setting, you can learn not just the what but the why behind each arrangement. Guidance that offers a perspective you wouldn’t find on your own can lift your work to a whole new level.
- You’ll have access to vases not available in group lessons. With a wider range of materials to work with, you can pursue your own voice in arrangement without limits.
- Semi-private sessions are also available — ideal for those who’d like to learn at their own pace alongside a close friend or two.

I’m a complete beginner at ikebana — is that okay?

Please don’t worry. Those new to ikebana will receive careful, step-by-step guidance from the very basics.

What should I wear to a lesson?

Please come in something comfortable and easy to move in — clothing you don’t mind getting a little dirty. An apron is a good idea too.

What do I need to bring to a lesson?

Flower materials are included in the lesson fee. All necessary tools such as vases are provided at the studio, so all you need to bring is a bag to take your flowers home in.
